GUIDE: KIKE ARNAIZ
Hi! I'm Kike Arnaiz, a professional wildlife and nature photographer. I've spent more than a decade traveling the world in search of wildlife, collaborating with major brands and publishing my work in outlets such as National Geographic.
A big part of my work is documenting these adventures on YouTube, where we're already more than one million people. You can also find my photographs on Instagram as @kikearnaiz.
I've visited this destination many times and know its wildlife and the dynamics of the trip well, which will allow me to help you get the most out of the experience.
And although this trip isn't designed exclusively for photographers, if you decide to bring your camera I'll be happy to share tips and techniques I've learned over years photographing wildlife around the world.
Adventure itinerary
Day 1 – Transpantaneira
Pick-up in Cuiabá and welcome briefing. After breakfast, we'll drive the famous 150km road that leads into the Pantanal, but we'll do it slowly, safari-style, as several animals and photographic opportunities await us along the way. In the late afternoon/evening we'll arrive at our lodge, where we can photograph birds such as the toucans and macaws that live near our hotel, without even leaving the rooms area.
Days 2, 3, 4 and 5 – Jaguar Safari
Before first light we'll have a buffet breakfast at our hotel. We can photograph the toucans and other animals that come to say good morning, and as soon as we're ready, we'll head out by boat in search of the jaguars.
Some days we may have the chance to see up to 5 or 6 jaguars — this is a very special place in the world where sightings are easy, since they appear near the riverbed and the guides know their territories very well.
Along the way, we can also photograph other animals such as otters, tapirs, ocelots, caimans and much more.
We'll have lunch in the shade on the boat, and continue with photo sessions in the afternoon. At sunset, we return to the lodge to use the pool or take some time to rest. The hotel has Wifi and buffet-style meals.
Days 6 and 7 – Transpantaneira Safari
The legendary Transpantaneira road takes us into the wildest, least explored heart of the Pantanal. We'll stay at a lodge specialized in wildlife photography, ideal for seeking unique species such as the giant anteater and the tapir, on exciting 4x4 safaris.
We'll also visit a jaguar conservation project, and continue to have the opportunity to observe and photograph these majestic felines in the wild. A different experience, more land-based and complementary to the river safaris.
Day 8 – Back Home
We return to Cuiabá after a morning safari. In the afternoon you can catch your flight back to your home country or keep enjoying Brazil if you decide to stay longer to explore places like the Amazon, Iguazú or Rio de Janeiro…
